When a student successfully passes a test, earning a new belt rank, they experience a profound sense of accomplishment. This achievement enhances their awareness of their learning progress and deepens their connection to the art, fueling their enthusiasm. However, it is essential for students to understand that each promotion is not an end in itself. Instead, attaining a new belt level marks the beginning of the next phase of their journey.
The sense of accomplishment at each belt level provides the motivation to strive for the next rank. Without clear goals, tangible rewards, or visible milestones, the belt ranking system would lose its significance. Students need to see and pursue achievable goals within a reasonable timeframe. Generally, the next ranking can be attained every six months, and progressing from a white belt to a black belt typically takes around 9.5 years. These progress markers are crucial, offering assurance that advancement is within reach in the years to come.
